Background/Context

The For Youth, By Youth (FYBY) movement is a youth-led initiative aimed at empowering young leaders to drive community, institutional, and societal transformation. Funded by the Mastercard Foundation, FYBY leverages the networks of the Talloires Network of Engaged Universities—a coalition dedicated to strengthening the civic roles of higher education institutions—paNhari, an organization that supports youth development and leadership, and the Next Generation Leaders (NGL) Alumni, a group of experienced youth leaders who actively contribute their insights and expertise to strengthen FYBY’s impact. Together, these critical stakeholders are building a collaborative environment where diverse voices worldwide engage in addressing urgent challenges through leadership, wellness, ethical AI, and participatory action research.

About the Role

The Wellness Curriculum Feedback Volunteer will play a vital role in supporting the For Youth, By Youth (FYBY) movement by contributing insights and feedback to enhance the wellness curriculum. Working closely with the Wellness Coach, this role ensures that the wellness component of the program resonates with diverse contexts and meets the evolving needs of FYBY participants. Volunteers will review curriculum materials, provide constructive feedback, and assist in aligning the curriculum with FYBY’s goals of conscious leadership and global solidarity.  

A key focus of this role is to help identify and understand the wellness needs of all FYBY participants, recognizing the diverse backgrounds and cultural experiences within the group. The Wellness Curriculum Feedback Volunteer will actively work to bridge cultural divides, ensuring that wellness initiatives are relevant and inclusive for a multicultural audience.

This volunteer role offers a unique opportunity for alumni and participants passionate about health and wellness to shape a core element of FYBY’s training materials.

This role will be directly contracted and supervised by the paNhari team and involves close collaboration with the Talloires Network secretariat staff to ensure alignment with.

Mastercard Foundation values, emphasizing accessibility, inclusivity, and adaptability to meet evolving program needs.

As FYBY evolves, this role may adapt to meet the program’s changing needs. Flexibility and open-mindedness are essential as we collaborate to create an impactful and relevant wellness component. 

Timeline and LOE

The role requires a commitment of approximately 4 hours per month, with flexibility based on volunteer availability and curriculum review timelines. Approximately 10-15% of responsibilities will be ad hoc, addressing tasks that may emerge as the curriculum and program progress.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Review Wellness Curriculum Materials 

  • Engage with draft wellness curriculum content, providing feedback on relevance, cultural sensitivity, and alignment with youth needs.
  • Deliverable: Feedback notes and suggested adjustments based on participant context and needs. 

2. Participate in Feedback Sessions with the Wellness Coach

  • Join monthly discussions with the Wellness Coach and other volunteers to discuss curriculum elements, provide insights, and share observations.
  • Deliverable: Meeting notes or action items summarizing feedback on curriculum alignment with wellness goals. 

 3. Assess and Bridge Cultural Wellness Needs

  • Actively gather insights on the diverse wellness needs of FYBY participants, and work to bridge cultural divides in wellness approaches.
  • Deliverable: Summary report highlighting cultural considerations and recommendations for inclusive wellness practices.

4. Pilot Curriculum Exercises

  • Test selected wellness exercises or activities to evaluate participant engagement and practicality.
  • Deliverable: Summary of insights and recommendations for enhancing exercises based on pilot experiences. 

5. Support Wellness Event Preparation

  • Collaborate on preparatory activities for wellness workshops, suggesting improvements to ensure inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Deliverable: Prepared suggestions or materials for workshop adjustments, focused on enhancing participant accessibility.

Qualifications

  • Interest in health, wellness, or youth programming, with a commitment to supporting diverse learning environments.
  • Experience in providing constructive feedback and engaging in collaborative discussions.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and the ability to bridge cultural divides within a wellness context.
  • Ability to work respectfully within a team, bringing cultural awareness and sensitivity to curriculum development.
